Tiger Woods Viral
YouTube has been a bit spammy of late – a victim of its own success.
It is full of videos of kids playing computer games, “epic fails“, “headshots” and glitches. That’s user generated content for you… it reflects the interests of the users that generate it. A quick glance at the comments section tells us that YouTube users are generally pubescent boys.
For pubescent boys, and gamers generally, Electronic Arts is seen as the quintessential big, nasty, evil developer. They have been responsible for some pretty dire work and are best known for their long-running series of sports games that change fractionally year by year but still sell squillions of copies.
So nobody thought anything of it when a chap called Levinator 25 posted a video of himself playing EA’s Tiger Woods 2008, taking a shot where Tiger appeared to walk on water. Except EA!
Electronic Arts have shown real insight by posting a video response on YouTube proving that Tiger really can “walk on water”. Absolutely fantastic publicity for minimal effort. Good work EA.
